The UCLH Delivery Suite consists of a 9-bedded Obstetrician-led unit and the Midwife-led Bloomsbury Birthing Centre, as well as two operating theatres. Close to 3,500 women give birth here every year. The BBC is suitable for women whose pregnancies are low-risk (the majority) while the Doctor-led unit is more appropriate for higher-risk women, as well as for those who wish to have an epidural or prefer this environment. The unit is staffed 24-hours a day by a highly-qualified team of Obstetricians, Midwives and Anaesthetists (including 42.5 hours of Consultant Obstetrician presence a week), and provides a full 24-hour epidural service. As the centre of the North London Perinatal Network, UCLH cares for many women who are considered ‘high-risk’ during pregnancy and childbirth. We have comprehensive back-up on the Delivery Suite from a wide range of specialists in areas such as cardiology, haematology and diabetes.
