Midwife Led Care
Lead: Julie Hogg/Gary Slevin
This is care suitable for women who are well before pregnancy and who do not develop pregnancy complications. Women who are well and uncompromised in pregnancy may choose to be looked after exclusively by midwives. This style of care can be easily shared with the woman’s family general practitioner if this is preferred. The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson & Obstetric Hospital has several group practices of midwives who look after well women through out their pregnancy, birth and postnatal care in hospital and at home.
There is a thriving home birthing service that is also provided by the group practice midwives. The group practice midwives staff the Bloomsbury Birthing Centre, which is situated within the fabric of the main hospital.
The midwife led service will provide care for ALL suitable women who request it. Women who live outside Camden and South Islington who choose to book their care at UCLH, and can access antenatal care and birth with the Bloomsbury group practice. Postnatal care at home, which is beyond Camden and South Islington, is provided by midwives in the woman’s own locality.
