Aims
The programme will: provide medical, science and nursing students with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the field of reproductive science and women’s health, specifically human genetics, female physiology and anatomy, reproductive health, gametogenesis, preimplantation development and IVF, pregnancy and childbirth, prenatal diagnosis and screening, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, breast and reproductive cancers.
provide a suitable environment for a clinical or laboratory based research project where a specific area of novel research can be explored and presented in the form of a dissertation
Enable students to develop skills required by today’s science and clinical staff, such as oral and poster presentations, writing scientific documents, IT skills and laboratory techniques such as PCR and FISH
Develop peer assessment and communication through discussion-based tutorials
Objectives
By completion of the course the MSc and PG Diploma students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the theoretical (including clinical) and laboratory aspects of reproductive science and women’s health.
By qualifying the students will be able to demonstrate transferable skills including information technology, analysis of scientific papers, essay writing, seminar and poster presentation, research techniques, peer review, laboratory skills and dissertation writing (MSc only).
All students will have gained knowledge of both the clinical and laboratory aspects of reproductive science and women’s health. This will enable the science-orientated students to go on to take PhD’s, or careers in embryology and the medically orientated students will be able to develop their careers in the field of reproductive science and women’s health.
